The SRD R370 grant eligibility criteria is very strict. SASSA gets thousands of appeals every month but they facilitate only those people who fulfil the following criteria.
- You must be not very young or old for R370 your age must be from 18 to 59.
- You must be a South African citizen, Permanent resident or recognized refugee or asylum seeker with valid documentation.

There are a total 8 grants available for the welfare of South African citizens. Below we discuss the amount, criteria of eligibility and important rules related to that specific grant.
1. Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant:
The South African government pays R370 every month to the citizens of South Africa who are unemployed or earning less than 627 South African Rand. The age limit is from 18 to 59 and you must have permanent residency in South Africa. It was started in 2019 during COVID to help people who become unemployed due to the pandemic.
2. Older Person’s Grant:
The older person’s grant is for the senior citizens of South Africa and you have to go to the SASSA office in person to avail this grant. It has different criteria and amount of money depending upon the age of the person. You would be eligible if you have no good financial source and you are 60 years old. From the age of 60 to 74 you would be paid 2,400 ZAR every month and if you are above 74 years old you would be paid 2,500 ZAR. . Older Person’s Grant will discontinue when you move to another country or die.

3. Disability Grant:
The disability grant is for the South African citizens who are disabled mentally or physically for the last 6 months to one year or are permanently disabled. To be eligible for this grant you must pass a means test that would test your financial assets and a medical disability report from the doctor. Each disabled South African citizen will get 2,400 ZAR from this grant every month.
4. War Veteran’s Grant
If you have served in the South African Military and have fought World War II (1939–1945) or the Korean War (1950–1953) you can apply for this grant. You must be 60 years old or above or disabled and must pass a means test. If you pass their criteria you would get 2350 ZAR every month as a War Veteran’s Grant.
5. Child Support Grant
This grant is for the children whose parents, guardians or caregivers struggle to take care of them financially. It would be equal to 560 ZAR. If a relative takes care of their orphan children he would be paid 840 ZAR every month. You need your child’s birth certificate and proof of your low income to apply for this grant. This grant will continue for your children until he become 18 years old.
6. Foster Child Grant
The foster child grant is for the parents who have adopted children but are unable to provide for their education, food, clothes and healthcare. If you qualify for this grant you would get 1250 ZAR every month until your children become 18 years old. To apply for this grant you need a Court order for foster care, Child’s birth certificate and ID of the foster parent.
7. Grant-in-Aid
If you are taking care of a person who is taking an Older PersoSRD SASSA STATn’s Grant or Disability Grant or War Veteran’s Grant then you can apply for Grant-in-Aid. The caregivers will receive 560 ZAR as a grant per month who take care of these types of persons who cannot perform their daily tasks alone and are beneficiaries of these grants. To apply for this grant ID of the caregiver, ID of the grant recipient and Medical proof that the recipient needs full-time care is required.
8. Care Dependency Grant
This grant is for the children who are severely physically or mentally disabled. A caregiver can apply for this grant with proof of his low income, disabled child’s medical report. The caregiver must be a South African citizen and the child must be under 18 years old. If the authorities approved the grant you would get 2320 ZAR every month .
